for mid-size teams
axle 2015 is the latest edition of axle's award-winning media management software. Simply point axle at the media files you want to manage and it automatically creates low-bandwidth proxies you can then access from any web browser. Using our simple browser interface, it's easy to search, comment, mark, approve, and annotate your assets from any location. There's no need to move your media files or change your system setup. Your storage can be a SAN, a NAS or just a local RAID, and can be running in a Mac, Windows or Linux environment – all axle needs is to be able to read the file system. For optimal system performance, we recommend running axle on a dedicated Mac Mini.
A rough-cut editor for iPad and iPhone that links to axle
for producers and reporters
From anywhere in the world, log onto axle and search material, combine it with footage recorded on your iPad or iPhone, do simple timeline or storyboard editing of video and audio from axle’s bins, and save a sequence locally using H.264 proxy. When the iPad edit is complete, a simple tap sends the project to axle servers where any locally acquired media is cataloged, conformed and associated with the original full resolution media.
axle Edit is easy to learn and use, but styled to resemble professional editorial tools with insert and overwrite editing, media detail views, cuts and dissolves, audio adjustments, and the choice of storyboard or timeline editing. It’s ideal for journalists and others who need a portable editing tool with the option to include archival news footage from the servers when editing in the field, and also for producers who want to review dailies or other footage and stitch together rough cuts for what-if purposes.
axle Transfer FCP & AE
Software to transfer sequences between editors
FCP: Final Cut Pro-Avid project transfer
axle Transfer FCP transfers sequences between FCP and all Avid editing and finishing systems; It is a two plug-in set for Final Cut Pro 7: one for AAF file format-compatible FCP7-to-Avid transfer, the other for Avid-to-FCP7 AAF file import.
- Using Transfer FCP, Avid and Final Cut Pro 7 editors can exchange projects that include transitions, effects, image and time warps, 3rd-party effects, and keyframes. All media markers, cuts, dissolves, filters, and audio are also preserved. Axle Transfer FCP supports a range of matte keys; contact us for details.
- Avid Media Composer, Symphony, NewsCutter and even DS are all supported, with media, markers, cuts, dissolves, filters, and audio preserved. Avid’s AMA architecture gives Avid users direct access to many popular QuickTime formats. FCP7 users can access Avid MXF files using Calibrated Software’s Calibrated MXF Import for OSX. Transfer FCP supports online and offline workflows.
AE: Avid and FCP7 project transfer to Adobe After Effects
axle Transfer AE is an Adobe After Effects plug-in that seamlessly transfers Avid Media Composer and Apple FCP7 program sequences to Adobe After Effects. New to Version 3, the Avid to After Effects workflow allows direct import and translation of Avid AAF format files.
- Transfer AE preserves every Avid or Final Cut Pro project component including edits, cuts, dissolves, and treatments; and all trimmed Avid Media Composer and Apple FCP7 clips remain fully-editable in Adobe After Effects as stepped-up or stepped-down layers.
- All media elements are preserved including alpha channel information and masks; audio tracks may be disregarded or all video and/or audio tracks pre-composed during import. Translated projects will look familiar with user marks, comments and labels for clips and sequences, and all user-defined names carried across from FCP7 or Avid to After Effects.
